Almost on the day nine years, it was that Burak Bilgin was standing for the first and only times in the starting element of SV Darmstadt 98. The third-league game against SV Babelsberg went 0: 2 lost, Bilgin has been replaced, never played again for the lilies. The special feature: After that, no other player from one's own offspring did not make it more in the starting player in a league. Until Clemens Riedel broke the spell last Friday.
Make mistakes allowed
"That's an indescribable feeling," says the central defender who has become a major anniversary on July 19th. Already on the 1st matchday he had deprived as a change in regensburg. In the away game at Karlsruher SC he stood in the square at the kick-off. He had been a bit nervous before, he admits. "But the coach and the teammates have come to me, I told me to take care of it, that they trust me and that I can do mistakes," he says. "In the game you are in focus. I was not so nervous anymore."
After the startTarf debut there was a lot of praise of coach Torsten Lieberknecht, but also from his teammates. Lasse Sobiech, his side man in the domestic defense, had certified the youngster to be very far and very self-confident for his age. Riedel himself does not want to overvalue. "I'm self-confident. But I would not call that as one of my crucial characteristics," he says. Of course, the game had been a big event, but at his personality, nothing changed: "You should always stay on the ground, do nothing over, even if I played 90 minutes now."
A violent muscle
Two years ago, Riedel came from the Giessener Verein Tsg Wieseck to Darmstadt. "That was a step," he says. But he settled quickly. Ever last season he always trained with the professionals. In preparation for the current season he traveled with the training camp. In the first test match against Swift Heserpingen he was in the starting formation.
Thereafter, a violent muscle cat led him painfully that he has denied no game for a long time for more than 90 minutes because the A-youth Bundesliga had been pausing since autumn 2020. But he has caught up with physical deficits. "I have to say that the muscle cat was not so extreme," he says smirking in the review of the game against Karlsruhe. "I expected it worse."
Riedel sees potential for further youth players
Now he wants to continue working and improve, be it in the second division team or in the U-19 Bundesliga with the A-youth, for which he is allowed to play for another year. In addition to Riedel, this season also debuted the U-19 players John Peter Sesay and Philipp Sunn already with the professionals \ - and there must be no assessment to Riedel's assessment. There is still one or the other who has the quality for the professional team. "You have to see if the opportunity gives himself. In the end, however, it is at every single one as he presents himself here."
