Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the Final Fantasy series, publishes today the second part of his last JRPG, Fantasian, on Apple Arcade. Fantasian Part 1 came out earlier this year as one of the best exclusives on Apple Arcade, with part 2 concluding the game. Fantasian has a typical JRPG intrigue, following the Leo protagonist who suffers from amnesia and is driven into a quest to save the world.
Although Fantasian is heavily inspired by Final Fantasy games, it brings some innovations to its gameplay. Mainly, the classic tower turn combat receives the extra touch of objective-based capabilities. This adds a greater strategic depth to the gameplay because you can potentially hit more or different enemies depending on where you run your curved or straight projectiles.
In addition, the backgrounds of the game are all created from real dioramas, giving the game a unique and elegant appearance. Finally, Fantasian introduces the "dimengeon" system, which allows you to "store" random encounters until you fight. This is an excellent solution for players who wish to explore a region without any annoying interruption.
Nobuo Uematsu, also famous for his work in Final Fantasy, also provides the musical partition of this game. You can listen to the fantastic soundtrack of Fantasian on Spotify.
You can only access this game that via Apple Arcade, which means you can play on any iOS, Mac or Apple TV device. As it is part of the Apple Arcade subscription, it will not contain subscription or microtransaction. This continuation of the game should take between 40 and 60 hours, according to Mistwalker, and will focus on a gameplay "focused on quests" rather than on history.
